Years ago, Shyah had a conversation with a photographer. She lamented about an uncooperative videographer who was impeding her ability to provide her client with an enjoyable experience. It was then that Shyah decided that he wanted to foster a generation of video creators who were collaborative and not competitive; empathetic and not selfish. BC Video Con is founded on this vision - Canada’s first filmmaker conference that aims to educate and inspire entrepreneurs, wedding and commercial filmmakers.
Our goal is to equip the attendees, our community, with the tools, systems and motivation that will allow them to help their clients, and to make an impact on their community while also making an income. We believe that pairing business acumen and a creative mind will lead to sustained success and happiness.
BC Video Con is founded by Vancouver Wedding & Commercial Filmmaker Shyah Yan Zarrabi
Shyah discovered a passion for filmmaking in 2010. He understood how impactful a video can be; a single piece can evoke anger, joy, fear and excitement - there’s no medium like video. Shyah set out to positively impact his community via filmmaking, so he pursued education in Film Studies and Digital Video Production in his home province of Ontario. In 2014, Shyah moved to British Columbia to begin his career in video production.
Since then, Shyah has filmed over 170 weddings and has helped businesses, private schools and municipalities with their video marketing content.
When the pandemic continued into 2021, a lot of his clients postponed their wedding or projects. Shyah took advantage of that time to begin working on that dream of his: a conference that would build a community of filmmakers and create a network of support and camaraderie.
